THOMPSON ESTATE EASTERN SUBURBS ATHLETICS - September 2012 Newsletter
The new Queensland Athletics year is due to start in a few weeks and this year is ending with some great results in the Regional Athletics.
In the Meteast trials that were held last week, many TEES athletes qualified for the State Championships either by placing in the top 3 or in the case of secondary athletes, making it by reaching the qualifying standards. The names we know of so far that have qualified are: Sam Jones, Michael Criticos, Nicole Swan, Hannah Schlect, Rifaat Toto, Efrem Tesfai, Vandy Kanneh, Jacob Bragg, Daniel Rolley, Jared Pascoe, Samantha Whitting, Thwane Fouche, Katrina Robinson, Christabel Kingdon, Keenan Cole-Zaro and Amanda Rose.
The following athletes broke records, Daniel Rolley, Vandy Kanneh, Amanda Rose and Katrina Robinson.
For the primary athletes, States is in Cairns late October and for the Secondary athletes States is in Brisbane late October.
The cross country season ended in August with the National Champs held in Adelaide. The course was extremely wet and muddy and quite different to the conditions athletes ran in for the State Champs. All athletes performed well and special mention must go to Jacob Bragg who came 2nd in the 12 year Boy's race. Samantha Whitting, aged 12, also deserves a special mention for coming 9th while racing up an age in the 13 year girl's race for the Qld Heat team. Jacob Bragg and Daniel Rolley were part of the winning 12 year boy's relay team and Katrina Robinson was part of the 12 year girl's relay team that came 3rd. It was a very successful season for our cross country runners. At the Queensland Athletics Cross Country Championships in August, TEES teams won both the girls and boys u14 team and individual events.
