THOMPSON ESTATE EASTERN SUBURBS ATHLETICS - September 2014 News Roundup

Hi all,

What a Great morning to celebrate "International Parkrun Day''. Watch out for the Parkrun report later this week to see if any records were broken, I'm guessing the results will be published then.

Youré not gonna believe how many TEES runners were at Minnippi this morning.

How does 28 sound, WOW !!! I could feel the excitement before & after the race as we all made Parkrun History. This gave TEES 17% of the 163 attendance.

Great return runs from Callum Finnegan & Arthur DeSilva.

Welcome for the 1st time to Peter, Shareen, Lars & Caelan Forsingdal (& the family dog, Woof-Woof !!!).

Pb's Today from:-

Yours truly, (must have been the excitement).

Liam''Rocket Ship'' Wyatt.

Sophie''SlingShot'' Head.

Well Done Guys !!!

We had a great time at the Ashgrove Flying 4 last weekend, the next one is on 19th October. Please put it in your diaries, calendars, phones, computers. Here is the link.

Hi all,

I'm still on a high from last weekends TEES attendance at the Flying 4. I'm hoping we continue to use this as another "Go To" run whenever it doesn't clash with QA or TEES events. This is unlikely as Ashgrove Rangers wouldn't want a clash with QA as they are also a QA club.

Last weeks Training was a Washout due to the storm which didn't last long but was enough to make the ground unsuitable for training. Fingers crossed we should be ok this week.

This week is International Parkrun Day, they are trying to break a World record for the most people competing in one event so I'm guessing that they'll add up all the people in all the Parkruns Worldwide. Wouldn't it be great to say "I was one of the Record Breakers" So please get involved & I'll see YOU at Minnippi Parkrun this coming Saturday 4th October.

Here's a Photo of the TEES Heroes from Last weekends Ashgrove Flying 4. The next one on their calendar is 19th October. See if it fits in you Calendar.

See you all at training on Thursday!!!

Helpers Required for TEES BBQ Fundraiser.
On Saturday November 1st, at Bunnings Cannon Hill, TEES are having a BBQ fundraiser and will require helpers from 8am till 4pm. If anyone can help for a 2 hour shift (or more), we would love to hear from you. This is a big fundraiser for TEES and an opportunity to help pay the bills for maintenance of the track, electricity, equipment for the club, prizegiving and to help athletes who have to travel away for approved competitions.

Hi all,

I normally wouldn't send a 2nd weekend message but I was so impressed by the TEES members who turned up & raced hard at the Ashgrove Flying 4 today.

We had 10 in total including our new members Jean-Paul Churchward & Serena Martin, welcome aboard.

Not only did Serena do the Minnippi Parkrun yesterday & do a Pb, then did the Flying 4 this morning but amazingly went straight to footy training afterwards, WOW!!!

Sophie Head brought along Sam & Haydee, just as well because Haydee came 1st female in the 1500m, Well done!!!

The Members of Ashgrove Rangers were very appreciative of our participation, I will keep you all informed when the next Flying 4 comes around.

Hi all,

Sorry so late, been at TEES most of day re-marking the track, not one of my favorite jobs. I was happily surprised to see so many of us there today even with a number of us away due to school holidays. We know what's good for us, another stunning Southside day appeared as we warmed up, challenged ourselves then socialised as good friends do.

We had a total of 17 TEES runners attending, which gave us a whopping 13% of all Minnippi Parkrunners.

PB's today were achieved by the following :-

Katrina Robinson, excellent run.

Ellen Christison, Fantastic sub 20 min PB in the bag !!!!!

Great work girls.

I promise I won't add the link again, just a gentle reminder about tomorrows "Ashgrove Flying 4. Remember to have your 4km or 1500m time handy for when you turn up. Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Yours in running, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Unfortunately there will be no training this evening due to the storm. Even if it stops the track will be too wet & slippy to run.

Hope to see you all at either Minnippi Parkrun on Saturday morning or Ashgrove flying 4 on Sunday morning or both if your keen.

Great running from young Jayden Syme in the 5km event at the Twilight Bay Run last weekend. Jayden came 1st in the U12 age category. Ellie Ryan was the 2nd female across the line in the 5km event.
More results from the recent Meteast Regional Athletics Championships. Not only did 11 year old Shellbee Welsh come 3rd in the 800m race, but she also won a bronze in the Multi-event competition. This means she must have run the 800m there 3 times!
12 year old shot put star, Amanda Rose came 2nd in the shot put with a record breaking throw of 11.52 metres, then gained a bronze in the discus throw.
We already reported that Hannah Schlecht and Samantha Wilson won their 400m races. Hannah then also won the 16 year girls' 100m and 200m races. Samantha won the Long jump and came 3rd in the 15 year girls' 200m race.
Erika Gage came 3rd in the 13 year girls' steeplechase.
Camelia Menzies came 3rd in the 14 year girls' javelin.
Callum Davies as well as qualifying for States in the 15 year boys' 1500m race came 4th in the 800m race with a time that should see him qualify for the State Champs.
Jared Pascoe came 7th in the 15 year boys' 800m race.
Good luck to everyone who is competing in the State Championships next month.
Hi all,

I'm excited, RU excited ? Whats he on about I hear you say, gone MAD!!!

Nah, just a timely reminder about the Ashgrove Flying 4 this Sunday 28th starting at 8am. Make sure you've worked out a rough time it will take you to do 4km as you have to nominate a time. I've spoke to the guys over there & they tell me this will be very helpful. Under 14's also have the option of doing a 1500 m if the 4km is a bit of a stretch so bring the younger kids also if they feel like a run. They will also need to nominate a time but it doesn't have to be super accurate. Aim to be there approx. 7.30am ish to get in a warmup & wear the TEES singlet if you have one. The course is pretty flat so not too taxing. Here is the Website link below:-

Will be great to see everyone at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Just finished a 20km run & now I'm stuffed !! I always like to save Sunday mornings if possible for a long slow run or cycle because of the lack of road traffic & the bonus of a slow day afterwards.

Yesterday at Minnippi Parkrun was very pleasant, with many runners including some of our own TEES members saving themselves for the Twilight Bay Run yesterday evening. Gary Bloxsom collected his 50th Parkrun T Shirt, well done Gary!!

We had 7 TEES runners in attendance out of a total of 95, giving us 7% of all runners attending.

PB's today as follows:-

Campbell Willis (breathing down my neck!!)

Michael Thompson.

Well done guys!!!!

Next Sunday is the Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4, I have made contact with Ashgrove rangers to let them know we are coming. They are running the race this time on a Handicap system which means that as you arrive you submit an average time it would take you to do 4kms. A rough calculation may be taken from a 5km time less the time to do 1km of that race or maybe the time it took you to do the last cross country at the Carindale Reserve 4km. Most Handicap races are done on a staggered start based on a time to start that they will give you. The idea is to have everyone in theory to finish approximately at the same time. This can make for some very exciting racing. I will confirm that this is what they are doing & get back to everyone.

Hope to see you all at training, Steve Barraclough

NEWSFLASH: You can now join TEES online through the QA website for the 2014/15 year. Unfortunately for those wanting to take out Gold Pass Membership, it will not be available till nearer the Cross Country season.
Hi all,

This is the time of the year when we can make some really good gains when distance runners don't have as many options for competition, so we can train harder without worrying too much about overtraining before a race. We also need to keep at it to acclimatise for the runs that are available. We can then power ahead while other less prepared runners have to suffer the temperatures.

I just noticed on Weekend Notes that the New Farm Park walkway is reopening this Sunday, although it is no longer a floating walkway since it was washed away in the Qld floods, it should be a great addition to our wonderful outdoor friendly city. Maybe worth a visit. I believe there is a barby etc for the opening.

Hope to see you all at training. Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Although I was still a spectator until back to healthy, I really enjoyed the Parkrun this Saturday. some very interesting results. The top 10 all went sub 20 minute including our very own Charles McDonald, great work Charles. Simon Cooper did 20 minutes flat which is very fast, proving that he has definitely shaken off the Holiday cobwebs.

Liam Wyatt had another Stellar result equaling his PB, very impressed !!! All these results came as I was feeling the temperature of the morning rise as the race progressed. This usually results in a slowing down but TEES runners are tough

Great to see Sophie Head back running after some frustrating injuries & doing her Minnippi Parkrun Debut with a very respectable time.

A great PB performance this week from Chrissy O'Hagan, Well Done Chrissy !!!

We had a total of 11 TEES runners resulting in a just under 9% of all being TEES runners. This would have been higher except Gary Bloxsom took an unfortunate fall just after the start line in a tangle with a fellow Parkrunner. We all know how Tough Gary is & I believe he is ok.

I'd like to remind everyone about the Ashgrove Flying 4 on the 28th September, here again is the link to their Website.

http://ashgroverangers.org/flying4/index.html

Have a great week in running & I will see you all at Training, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Were getting back to normal slowly & the QA events are starting to trickle through so please don't let your training slip. Fitness levels can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster but the benefits of continually striving for a higherlevel far outweigh the negatives of the couch & TV scenario.

I would again like to promote the Ashgrove rangers Flying 4, hoping we can show our support to our fellow QA club. Checkout the link below.

http://ashgroverangers.org/flying4/index.html

Hope to see you all at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Some great results in for our TEES juniors at the Meteast Regional Track and Field Championships held last week. Our 12 year old girls were on fire! In the heats, Ellie Ryan won her 800m heat in 2.22, breaking the record. Shatalii Mooney-Stack, was first in her 800m heat, and Gabby Williams was first in her 800m heat! Ellie went on to win the finals, followed by Shatalii in 2nd and Gabby just missing out on a making it to the State Champs in 4th position. Shellbee Welsh came 3rd in the 11 year girls' 800m race with a big PB.
Thwane Fouche won the 15 year girls' steeplechase and the 15 year girls 1500m and was 3rd in the combined 14/15 year girls' 3000m race.. Kurt Frampton came 3rd in the 15 year boys' 1500m race in a new PB. Luke Harvey qualified for States in the 14 year boys 1500m and 3000m race, and Callum Davies qualified in the 15 year boys' 1500m race. Samantha Wilson won the 15 year girls 400m race and Hannah Schlecht won the 16 year girls 400m race. Katrina Robinson won the 14 year girls 1500m race and the combined 14 and 15 year girls 3000m race. She broke the record in the 3000m race, running in a PB time for her of 9.47. Camelia Menzies qualified for States in the javelin. Christabel Kingdon came 4th in  the 13 year girls 800m and 3rd in the 1500m races. The results have not been published on the Meteast website yet, so we have probably missed out on other great TEES performances here. Let us know of any we have missed.
Hi all,

After attending the Capalaba launch last week I was really looking forward to running Minnippi but "Man Flu" stopped that. As we all know, being runners there's always another day !!!

This week the numbers were down due to "Bridge to Brisbane" tomorrow. Thompson Estate have a healthy amount of members involved tomorrow based on the show of hands at Thursday training. Its hard to ignore such a community event & even though people complain about crowding, toilets, people linking arms etc. they keep going back year after year. For some its the biggest effort they'll put in for a whole year, for others its just another race. Whatever it means to you, the numbers prove that Brisbane is really alive this time of year.

Today at Minnippi Parkrun we had 8 TEES members which gave us just under 8% of full attendance.

Chrissy O'Hagan achieved a well deserved PB, well done Chrissy !!!!!

I would like to remind everyone about the Ashgrove Flying 4, 4km Cross Country on 28th September.

Please put this one in your diary. They only charge $2 to club members to join in.

I'm making it my mission to try & get as many TEES runners there as possible & seen as its a Sunday it makes it easier to attend, all you have to do is get out of bed !!! They also have a 1500 metre distance for the younger runners.

If you know anyone who would benefit from Training with us please let them know & make them welcome.

Hope to see you all at training, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Its great to be back on our own field. no more pushing the wheel barrow back & forth & juggling field lighting, still it was also very important for us to keep training & keeping the group going. We have a very exciting future as a club & if I wasn't a member I would definitely want to be.

Please keep an eye on the QA competition calendar & spread the word of any other runs/competitions you know of. Word of mouth as we know (or social media of one kind or another) is the best way of getting the info out.

The chilly temperatures are subsiding so hopefully the excuses for not training are also. Hope to see you all at training tomorrow. Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Its hard to believe that today is the 2nd last day of Winter, I think Spring had a test "Run" today & got in the Parkrun Spirit !!!

Sorry for not attending today, just thought I'd give Capalaba a go on their official launch day. This was very enjoyable, especially when I was given a Handslap at the last turnaround by Janie, Carmels daughter from Minnippi.

Back to Minnippi Parkrun, I spoke to a few people today who told me how well Minnippi Parkrun is organized week after week, & who were all those guys in the Red, White & Blue. TEES are building up a reputation as being competitive & friendly wherever we go. This is the way I believe Sport operates at its very best.

There were 16 TEES runners at Minnippi Parkrun today out of a total of 113 runners which gives us a percentage of 14%.

PB's today as follows:-

Stephen Bloxsom

Liam Wyatt.

Great work guys, I have been watching Liam very closely & his achievement today has come from his commitment to training & learning how to hold a steady pace over distance which as we all know can be very hard & only comes with experience & practice, Well Done Liam !!!!!

While on the subject of training it was really Heartwarming to see Adam Finnegan & Roy Edmunds pacing together at last weeks Thursday Training session. I don't know if this was intended but it really was very inspiring to watch.

Have a great weekend, see you all at training. Steve Barraclough

Great running by 11 year TEES member Torryn Squires this week at the Metnorth Regional Champs. She placed 3rd in the 800m and now progresses to the Queensland Championships at QE2 in October,
If you are entering in the Twilight Bay Run at Wynnum on September 20th, then Thompson Estate Athletics is down as an existing team for you to choose to run under. Who knows, we might win a team prize!
Congratulations to all the TEES runners and walkers out there in Albany, WA. for the Australian Cross Country and Road Walking Champs. Ellie came 4th in the 12 year girls' race, and her team came first in that race. Thwane 35th in the U16 girls race, Luke 55th in the U16 boys' race and Ellen came 19th in the Open women's race with her team winning bronze. We're proud of you all!! Then today, Adam competed in the Road Walk for 11 year old boys and won GOLD! Fantastic work Adam.
Hi all,

I've written a new saying for this weeks report "Mad Dogs & TEES runners went out for a Minnippi Parkrun". I know after that you'll be saying Steve, stick to running & leave the poetry alone!!

Well what can I say, the weather was miserable but necessary to promote the grass regrowth on the track. As we all know nothing beats rainwater.

Today at Minnippi Parkrun we had 13 TEES runners attending which gave us a WHOPPING 19% of all attending runners. Our presence is definitely very noticeable & inspiring to others. There were no Pb's this week which did not surprise me with the wind & rain, but these kind of runs toughen us up for the future events.

Last Thursday I mentioned the Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 cross country. This is an event that they have occasionally over a 4km course on Sundays starting at 8am.

The next one is on 28th September. I would like you all to consider attending this event as Ashgrove Rangers are a QA club just like us & our support would show great interclub support & friendship. checkout the link below.

Hope to see you all at training, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Thought I'd get in early today so you have no excuses. Those of you that have missed a few sessions, its a good idea to jump back on board & try & maintain & improve your fitness. The general rule of thumb is that fitness & stamina is lost 10 times quicker than is gained so skipping training can lead to frustrating plateau's of fitness & sometimes even a decline in performance. On that note this is a friendly reminder to "keep the momentum" & make our training sessions an integral part of your week.

On a lighter note I would like again to mention how proud I am to be part of this club with our commitment of helping others in our local running community with the pacers we provided last Saturday at Minnippi Parkrun. We put smiles on many faces & bragging rights for the new Pb's for many runners. TEES should be very proud!!!

Hope to see you all at training tomorrow.

We put smiles on many faces & bragging rights for the new Pb's for many runners. TEES should be very proud!!!

Hope to see you all at training tomorrow.
Hi all,
Don't know about you guys but I like a bit of rain when running, as long as I'm wearing a cap to keep the rain out of my eyes. Alright, I'll stop dribbling.

I think everyone would agree that the Pacerunning today was a great success, especially when you look at the amount of PB's achieved that are grouped around each pacerunners target finish time. TEES made a lot of runners very happy today.

Special thanks to Chrissy Hagan for putting aside her own race to help others achieve, also to John Roache for joining in to pace at last minute to fill a gap & to John Crook for once again organizing us & making us look like we knew what we were doing

We had 19 TEES runners in attendance out of a total field of 100, this was the easiest calculation I've had to do so far making 19% TEES runners. this also goes to show that TEES runners are TOUGHER & are not put off by a bit of poor weather. I heard from Kayti & Heather, they had a great time doing the Tough Mudder, Go TEES!!!

PB's today from:-
Charles Mc Donald
Adam Finnegan
I was at the finish line watching Adam do one of the gutsiest runs I've seen for a long time. Great run Adam !!!
Hope to see you all at training next week for more running FUN.
