THOMPSON ESTATE EASTERN SUBURBS ATHLETICS - October/November 2014 News Roundup

Hi all,

I know this is an unusual start to the report but I just want to report that there were no PB's this week from TEES runners. This does not surprise me in the least as we had 2 rather testing conditions to battle against.

1. Many of us including myself did something we very rarely do when racing, left our watches behind for Parkruns official Nude Run. When having a constant reminder of pace, this minimizes the chance of going out too hard & burning out partway through the distance.

2. Combined with a very warm morning & a tailwind on the return from the bridge made for a faster return, but with no breeze for cooling the inevitable overheat took its toll.

This by no means takes away from the absolute solid efforts put in from each & every one of us. We all become so much tougher as we keep challenging & honing our skills as distance runners. Well done to everyone, TEES is ''Flying High''

Out of a total of 129, there were 25 TEES runners, this gives us 19.379844% of total so all we needed was 0.620156% extra runner to be 1 in 5, although we probably lost that much in sweat, Yuk!!!

Quick reminder of TEES Xmas Picnic on 20th December. Would be great to see you there. Have a great weekend, see you all at Training, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

I'm hoping the weather will be kind tomorrow unlike last Thursday, We do need the rain but not on Thursday afternoon/evenings. I'm really happy with the sessions are going & we are all showing high levels of commitment. We should all be very proud of giving ourselves this time to push to new heights of health & fitness through running. Running is the ''Grass Roots'' of almost all sports & should never be underestimated as a way of adding balance to our lives.

See you all at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Tees was once again well represented & thanked for our attendance at Ashgrove rangers Flying 4. In attendance were Jean Hampson, Kevin Christison, Liam Wyatt & Josh Earl.

Josh had a great 1500 metre race, He won it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liam Wyatt improved his performance from last time with Knowledge gained from the last time he participated in this race, good work Liam.

Great to see Kevin back flying the TEES flag, onwards & upwards

Jean running strong after a successful campaign after her Beach race.

Running on all these different surfaces prepares us for just about anything & gives us strengths where others are not. Enjoy all that is available to us, have a great week, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

I always look forward to Saturday morning, maybe because its the weekend or is it because its MINNIPPI PARKRUN !!!!!!! Yeh, that's it. 2 laps if the pond really wakes me up & makes me feel ''ALIVE''.

Apparently this must be a common feeling in the TEES club with 23 of us doing the running dance (you only need to learn 2 steps & your away) ///////////////>>>>>>

Out of a total of 142, TEES had an attendance percentage of 16.1971830% (very roughly calculated with a Scientific calculator to the nearest gazillion)

PB's today from:-

Scott Mulholland, yes I am claiming you as a TEES runner

Peter Forsingdal

Mia Forsingdal

Caelan Forsingdal

Big smiles at the Forsingdals today, see you guys tomorrow for more fun !!!

For the TEES runners that couldn't make it to Minnippi today maybe you could consider Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 tomorrow starting at 8am. This is a 4km Cross Country & an optional 1500 metres for 14's & under. It is a very flat course with easy tracks making it ideal for 1st timers & experienced runners, Go on, give it a go !!! This is the link.http://ashgroverangers.org/flying4/index.html

Have a great weekend, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

As I went for a run this morning, I was going past our track thinking how lucky we are to be able to lace up at almost any time & enjoy our passion, running. This is something I tend to take for granted most of the time because we rarely are restricted by conditions other than our own busy lives & commitments.

Last Saturday night I went to the Shangri-La for the Carina Leagues Club Sports awards dinner with my Daughter, Yasmin & our club President, Eddie Fabian. The amount of local commitment we have for sport was amazing. The main Speaker was Hayley Lewis who shared her life story so far. At the end of her speech she shared this comment.

"Your Skill & Ability will get you there, Your Hard Work & Perseverance will Keep You There". I think you would have to agree that this definitely rings True.

So on that note, I would like to remind each & everyone of you that training is tomorrow & I'll be there with another sweat filled Training Session, Steve Barraclough.

Thank you to all those people who turned up on Saturday to help at the Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser for TEES. I think a party is required!
Callum Davies (number 1279), chasing hard with 100m to go in the 15 year 800m race, earns himself a silver medal in the Queensland Championships.

Fantastic running by Hannah Schlecht in the State Champs in the weekend. She earned herself a gold medal in the 16 year girls' 400m and a spot on the Queensland heat team that will go to Adelaide in December.
Good Morning all

Hi all,

Finally I've worked out something that most of you "smarties" probably knew how to do all along. You no longer will have to stare at everyone else's email addresses before getting to the message, Hooray!!!

1st on the agenda is the very important Christmas TEES Picnic. Kayti has put together a Flyer & instructions which I have attached. This will give us all a chance to socialize with each other while not covered in sweat & out of breath

It's great to see so many of our younger athletes doing so well, TEES is very proud to have these young ambassadors of the sport we love flying the TEES Flag.

Don't forget to pack your training gear for tomorrow, I'm guessing that by now that most of you would feel your week is missing something without weekly training. This is a GOOD THING!!! that helps us achieve.

A must for your Calendar is the Minnippi Parkrun 1st Birthday on 29th November. The theme is M for Minnippi. Fancy Dress sounds like a great idea, You know you want to. I you haven't already its a good idea if you on Facebook to "Like" the Minnippi Parkrun Facebook page. Steve Barraclough.

Hey Guys,
Look who's been racing hard, Liam Wyatt smashed out a Silver in 100metres AWD. Here he is looking very happy with his accomplishment.

Hi all,

Sorry for the late report.

We have a great group photo from todays run, joining us for the 1st time was Lisa Bloxsom, Laurence Earl & Joshua Earl, Welcome aboard !!!

Today was in my opinion the 1st real taste of warmer weather for running. Please be careful in the months to come & make sure you are hydrated before the Startline.

In Total we had 28 TEES runners in attendance out of a total field of 158. this gives us an outstanding amount of 21.875%. I doubt theres another club anywhere that can claim an attendance in those numbers. You should all be very proud, I know I am !!!

PB's today from the Father & Son *Superteam*, Scott & Jack Mulholland, Great run Guys.

If you are new to TEES &/or have just started running Minnippi Parkrun with us could you please add Thompson Estate to your profile as it makes it much easier for me to spot when writing this report. Easiest way is when you get your own race results email from parkrun there is an option to Edit Profile.

Just one other Housekeeping matter. If you no longer wish to receive these emails could you please let me know so I can minimize outgoing report to intended recipients & TEES members, You can still follow us on Facebook if you wish, Thankyou.

Callum Davies did a great run in the 15 year boys' 800m final at the State Secondary School Championships winning the silver medal and doing a big PB . time of 2.01. It was a wonderful race to watch.
Congratulations to Katrina for winning the U16 girls' 3000m event at the Queensland School Athletics Championships. A great run.
Katrina backed this up three days later with a win in the 1500m race in a time of 4.33.
Shane Webb won the 19 year boys' AWD 100m, 800m and  1500m races. That's a fantastic effort Shane!
Hi all,

Yes its that time again when I attempt to get you all fired up & excited for tomorrow, where nothing else matters except tomorrow nights training when we all get together & get fitter, faster & contort our bodies into ridiculous stretches & shapes in the name of our favourite pastime, RUNNING!!!

While I have your attention could I please remind anyone that has not renewed their membership yet to please do so. I believe it has an element of insurance attached to the membership that keeps us all covered as a club & its members.

Also, so we can continue to lift our running economy & strength, a great session that I would recommend once a week would be to find a moderate hill, not too steep & run up it approx. 6 to 10 times depending on fitness level. Walk back down between each repeat as a recovery. This promotes leg strength & also takes away the fear of hills when they appear in any run/race. Make sure you warmup well beforehand which may include the jog to the hill, & of course Stay Safe. Hope to see you all at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

South East Qld can really provide some great running conditions, today is definitely one of those days. I'm guessing that many of you threw the bedsheets back & thought ''No excuses today''.

I'd again like to thank the organizers & volunteers of Minnippi Parkrun for their dedication & commitment towards Community Running & Fitness, you should all have your pays Doubled !!!

We had an incredible TEES attendance today, 28 infact. this gave us a percentage of 18.791946% ( couldn't help myself ) we certainly know what a ''Good Thing'' is when we see it.

Pb today from Jack Mulholland, straight back from holiday. Great run Jack!!!

As the weather warms up this can sometimes cause us to struggle in races, but if we condition ourselves carefully the heat can work to our advantage. If time permits try running at a slightly warmer time of the day, run in small loops or on a track so that you are not far from home/car if you get caught out or start getting too hot, Stay Hydrated & Sunsafe, Safety 1st.

Quick reminder that Ashgrove Rangers are hosting the Flying 4 Cross Country. this is a 4km XC or an optional 1500 metre for under 14's which is slightly less intimidating for our younger athletes. It's only approx. 15km's from Carina & Ashgrove Rangers really appreciate our attendance. Starts at 8am, here's the link.

Wishing everyone everyone an enjoyable weekend, Steve Barraclough.

Congratulations to two of our 12 year old athletes, Ellie Ryan and Amanda Rose. They both competed at the Queensland Primary Schools Track and field Championships held this week and Ellie came 2nd in her 800m race and Amanda came 3rd in the Shot Put. Both these girls will now be travelling to Tasmania next month to compete in the Australian Championships,

Hi all,

Tougher than TEES, No Way !!!, We'll take on any training as we know that training & racing combined gives us what we strive to achieve, Fitness beyond our wildest dreams. Alright, I may be stretching it a bit there but you get the picture

We are having a fantastic turnout at Monday & Thursday training, the race results are showing very positive improvements & experience been gained from different types if racing ( Baton relays & Flying 4 ) interacting with other clubs & making friends.

Jean Hampson took some really great photos of last weeks 4x1500 at QSAC, check them out in the attachment. Don't forget the Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 this Saturday starting at 8am. We had 10 TEES runners there last time, lets see if we can outdo ourselves.

Hope to see you all at Training, Steve Barraclough. (9 photos)

Hi all,

As everyone knows who attended Minnippi Parkrun this morning I was running quite late. Probably because of the very enjoyable night some of us had playing Trivia for a very good cause, hosted by Shareen Forsingdal & family. Thanks for a great night, the ''Wooden Spoon'' will come in very handy

I then left & joined the ''Best Looking'' ever 4 X 1500m relay Team at QSAC Nathan where we Gallantly gave it our all. Jean definitely knows how to take a good photo (attached). Dean (Astro) Comber not only organized us into our positions, but then stepped in & helped another team in the same race after running a 3000m earlier on showing the true Spirit of Competition, Thanks Dean.

Back to Minnippi Parkrun, we had 16 TEES members attending out of 146 total giving us 11% overall.

Pb's this morning as follows:-

Ellen Christison.

Serena Martin.

Kerrie Schmidt.

Great work girls !!!

Next weekend on Sunday 19th October is the Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 Cross Country. Last time it was a Handicap race but this time it will be a normal start which gives a better indication of true race positions. Under 14's can choose to either do a 1500m or 4km race.

Ashgrove Rangers are very appreciative of our attendance last time. So check your Calendars & give your Team Mates a Nudge & lets see if we can again show our support for a great community race. Steve Barraclough

Hi all,

I was down at the track this morning running around in circles, avoiding the ducks & thinking how lucky we are to have such great facilities & conditions. Temperatures & humidity that vary just enough that allow us to be ready & "race fit" for just about anything.

Of course none of this will turn into reality if you skip training for TV, X Box etc. Many people use excuses like "I don't have time" but usually with a bit of juggling & creativity the time to train becomes available.

So on that note of trying to be inspiring, I'd like to see you all at training tomorrow for a fun packed session of sweat & oxygen useage, how about it !!!?
