First there was the Gold Coast Marathon and one of our coaches ran a very fast 3 hours 16 minutes in the marathon event. Great running Steve. Katrina ran the 4km Junior Dash, and was the first female over the line. Jacob came 2nd in the same race. The Downunder Competition was also held that weekend, with athletes from the Australasia region and the USA competing. Hannah Schlecht qualified for the finals in the 100, 200 and 400m but did not run in them. Her 100m heat time would have won the finals. Samantha Wilson ran an impressive 400m to get 5th position, and Katelyn S was 6th in the javelin. Michael C had a good weekend with his throws, and came 2nd in the Shot Put, 3rd in the discus and 1st in the javelin. It was a great weekend of racing and throwing.
The Primary Schools State Cross Country Champs were held in Ipswich and we must congratulate all our runners there. It was a cold day, with the rain coming down at the start of the event. In the first race of the day Tahlia Fletcher came 5th in the 12 year girl's race, Erika Gage 10th, and Christabel Kingdon 14th. The 11 year girls saw Ellie Ryan win her 3km race in fine style and Shatalli came in 23rd. A great effort in a race of 55 of the States fastest 11 year olds! Then 10 year old Shellbee ran her first State 2km race and came 4th, with the top 4 runners being very close Shellbee, Tahlia and Ellie all qualified for the National Cross Country Championships to be held in Tasmania at the end of August.
On the same weekend Andre Fouche completed the 96km Kokoda Challenge in an impressive time, and found it a very rewarding event to do.
The Secondary School Cross Country Champs were held last weekend on a course in Bundaberg that was flooded a few months ago, but was a dry and fast course for the event. Thwane Fouche started the day off with a wonderful 4km run. She was 6th, and because the top 6 times in her 14 year race were faster than any of the 15 year olds they all qualified to be in the Queensland Team going to Tasmania in the U16 category. In the 13 year old girls Katrina Robinson ran a very fast 3km time. to win the race and Samantha Whitting was 4th. Both girls will now be heading to Tasmania and will be joined by Jacob Bragg who came 2nd in the 13 year boys race! Camelia Menzies ran a good race in the 3km and came in 16th and went on to claim a gold in the 13 years Meteast relay team along with Samantha and Katrina. Callum Davies suffered an injury and could not complete his race and Luke Kingdon came 20th in his 4km race!
On the 14th July Adam Buchhorn won the U12 boys race in the Queensland Road Walking Championships. This qualifies Adam for the National Champs which are also held in Tasmania.
Well done to everyone, including the parents for doing the driving around.
Queensland Cross Country Champs. This is on the 3rd August at Carseldine, and is QA's last cross country event for the year! It is also a chance for athletes to be chosen for the Queensland Heat Team that goes to Tasmania for the National Cross Country Champs held in conjunction with the Australia Schools Championships. QA take 6 runners from each category for their team, and as some of the runners will have already qualified for the School team, it leaves room for other runners to fill in the Heat team spots!
TEES has usually won a few Team medals at this event, and we would like to see all TEES runners out there, regardless of ability. You are allowed to run up an age group, but not down. If you need a uniform email@example.com
. Enter online beforehand if you can, as this does not incur a late fee. We can also see what categories we need more runners in to be eligible for medals.
Brown Bonwick Memorial - This Cross Country race was held at Minnippi Parklands on July 13th, and was a fun afternoon in the sunshine. First place in the handicap went to TEES runner Natasha Yates. Thanks to all the TEES helpers. Thanks also to those helpers at the Masters BBQ fundraiser. Remember by helping, this qualifies you for assistance if you qualify for a National event.
