April was a busy month in the club cross country programme.
We started off with a very successful club cross country meet at Minnippi Parklands. This event had a good turnout , and we received many positive comments from runners. The next event was the QA Schools and Clubs Cross Country Relays at John Paul College. TEES fielded 6 junior teams and 4 Adult teams. The weather was beautiful and the team spirit was great. Thanks to all the runners who turned out to run for the club - you did a great job! The U12 girls won gold; U12 boys -bronze; U14 girls gold; U16 boys-silver;U16girls - bronze; Open women - bronze and Masters men gold. A few of our junior runners ran for their schools as well and had good results there.
The QA All Schools Cross Country Champs were held last weekend at Kedron State High School. As is usual for this event, the sun shone beautifully, but made many of our runners feel the heat! A few of the stand-out results follow. Shellbee Welsh came 4th in her 10 year girls race out of a field of 85 girls. Jordan Kingdon came 2nd, in a thrilling finish. He was only a fraction of a second away from the winner. Lachlan Reardon came 5th in the same race. Ellie Ryan did well to finish in the top 10 in the 12 year girls' race, which had 88 competitors. Christabel Kingdon ran a great race in the 12 year girls category to gain a 4th place. Tahlia Fletcher just missed out on the top 10, coming an impressive 12th out of 81. In the 13 girls race, Katrina Robinson came first out of 100 finishers. Camelia Menzies was 11th and Samantha Whitting was 12th. This race had the most entrants in it, and many runners throughout the day failed to finish the course. Jacob Bragg was coming 3rd at the halfway mark in the 13 year boys race, but unfortunately collapsed at this point after being unwell at the start of the race. Hope you have recovered now Jacob! In the 14 boys race, Callum Davies came 6th. Because the top 2 finishers at this event in the older age groups are automatic selections for the Qld Athletics Cross Country Team to compete in Tasmania in August, Katrina has qualified to be part of the Queensland Heat Team to compete there. Well done everybody! These were big fields and just competing in them is brave, as the quality of runners is much higher than at the average fun run. On the same day, Queensland Running held their Cross Country Champs and Torryn Squires competed there and won the 10 year girls' race.
The QA Short Course Championships were held on the same day for the Open and Master's runners. Anne Ryan and Marcia Sheer came first and 2nd in their age category. Jean Hampton 2nd in hers. Their results won them Gold in the Team category for their age. Dean Comber was 2nd in his age group and Steve Barraclough 4th in the same race. Kevin Christison was 3rd in his race, and in the 60-65 age group, Jason Collie won gold and Sean Ryan silver! Fantastic effort all round.
Qld Athletics held their first Cross Country Cup and TEES runners had good results, but did not usually have enough runners for a team due to the strict QA rules on team formation. The over 50s men did though and won a gold for their efforts!
The next Cross country Cup will be on May 18th. If you can get along and run please do, especially if you have a Gold Pass, as then it is free. many of the juniors will have Meteast Cross Country Champs 3 days after this event, so may choose to miss it. Possibly the weekend of the 25th will see a big turnout.
The next TEES fundraising event will be at the Crackerjack Carnival on June 1st and 2nd, followed by the Masters Hardware BBQ at Tingalpa in late June. If you think you can help let us know. We are needing to buy more mats for our training sessions, and these BBQs will help us purchase such items. Also if you have qualified for a recognised National event TEES will donate $200. towards your expenses if you have helped at a fundraising event. Please phone Eddie on 0411 591 511 or Rosalie on 33981016 if you can help at either of these events.
